Man Tried To Burglarize Car With Cop Inside: West Hartford Police
Police say the officer was conducting surveillance due to recent burglaries in the area when the man tried to open the unmarked police car.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — An East Hartford man was arrested early Thursday morning after he attempted to burglarize a vehicle that a West Hartford police officer was sitting in, according to police. The officer was in an unmarked police vehicle conducting surveillance at about 12:30 a.m. on Jackson Avenue due to recent burglaries in the area.

“Colgan began to walk in the middle of the road toward the area where the vehicle was parked alongside the roadway,” police wrote in a press release. “Colgan then went to pull on the door handle at which point the officer exited the vehicle and detained Colgan who was subsequently arrested not only for this incident but also an outstanding arrest warrant.”

Coglan, 38, of Colt Street in East Hartford, was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged on a warrant for violation of probation.
