Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Collector's Edition Blu-ray Detailed
Posted December 12, 2018 04:04 PM by
Shout Factory has detailed its upcoming Collector's Edition of Frank Oz's comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), starring Steve Martin, Michael Caine, Glenne Headly, Anton Rodgers, and Barbara Harris. The release will be available for purchase on January 22.
Synopsis: In the south of France, two rival con men suave and sophisticated Lawrence (two-time Oscar-winner Michael Caine, The Cider House Rules) and third-rate American hustler Freddy (Steve Martin, The Jerk) make a wager. The first one to extract $50,000 from the next woman they meet wins and the other leaves town. The bet is on, the stakes are high and the blows are low in this hysterically funny, ruthlessly witty, dirty, rotten comedy!
Special Features and Technical Specs:
BRAND NEW 2K REMASTER OF THE FILM
NEW Interview with Writer Dale Launer
Audio Commentary with Director Frank Oz
Featurette
Trailers
Optional English SDH subtitles for the main feature
It IS supposedly a new 2K remaster so hopefully that's some justification for a double-dip, but I would have much preferred a blu-ray release of the original film, Bedtime Story, which never even got a DVD release, not even a DVD-R MOD one.
This film is a comedy gem with so many memorable lines only Steve Martin could deliver. I'm up for the upgrade and double dip especially considering the recent passing of one the stars in this film, Glenne Headly.
Day one buy for a movie I went to see and didn't expect it to be so funny.I laughed so hard, it made me cry . I miss Glenne Headly and those sexy eyes and cute voice..... : [
I'm grabbing this one. I'm with others about extending the Steve Martin catalog on Blu. On the very top of my list is ALL OF ME. I can't believe that movie has only ever had that REALLY crappy Fullscreen DVD release. It's an overlooked classic and absolutely hysterical.
Great movie. Absolutely no need for an upgrade but of course Shout Factory will gladly re-re-re-release anything they can get their hands on these days. Throw this on the same pile along with Teen Wolf, City Slickers, The Jerk, When Harry Met Sally, etc, etc. Senseless. Can't wait to see this $34.95 list price Blu ray sitting in the bins at Target next to the $5 edition that has virtually the SAME TRANSFER. So stupid.
I really really really would love to see a proper Blu-ray release (UHD even better) of LA Story, such a lovely, moving yet hilarious flick. One of my faves of Steve's.
I would definitely consider this one for the new scan, loads of replay value.
