Sam’s Posse Rodeo Roundup brings inclusive fun to Poway Rodeo
Sam’s Posse Round-Up Rodeo was open to individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, age 5 and up, at the Poway Rodeo Arena on Saturday.
At the event, participants could experience the sport of rodeo by using specially designed activities for individuals of all abilities. The activities included Stickpony barrel racing and pole bending, “Not so rough stock” riding (rocking horses and bulls), roping and horse-drawn wagon rides.
Participants also interacted with Rodeo Royalty, therapy horses, and professional Rodeo cowboys and cowgirls.
The Vista nonprofit was founded by Buck and Deorah Burt, the parents of the late Sam Burt, who at birth was diagnosed with a genetic condition so rare, there were only five documented cases worldwide. He was both intellectually and physically challenged.
