A mum and former Miss Galaxy contestant from Wandsworth has released her debut single.

Natisia McGlashan, who goes by the name of NUBIAN in the music industry, dropped her first single, Guess Wat, in July and is raring for the world to “hear what she’s made of”.

The single has already racked up more than 50,000 views on YouTube in just 12 weeks as an independent artist.

Natisia told the Wandsworth Times that she has always had a “love for the music industry” ever since she was a teenager and participated in musical theatre activities in school and college.

She said: “I’ve always known that I wanted to release some music.

“I have always been around music since a young age – my dad was a well-known DJ in south London before he passed away in 2018.

“I just wanted to find the right time to release my song.

“Initially, the song was written for somebody else, but I decided that I wanted to keep it and I’ve already had some great feedback.”

Natisia plans to focus her music around hip-hop, rap and afro-beat rhythms with inspiration from her favourite UK rapper, Stefflon Don.

Natisia says the inspiration behind the lyrics of Guess Wat are inspired by her younger years growing up, where she says she dealt with a lot of struggles, especially when it comes to finance.

She added: “I had quite a hard time growing up.

“I think my song is all about making money and growing.

“It’s also about not caring about the people who talk bad about you and just being who you are.”

Earlier this year, Natisia took part in the Miss Galaxy pageant where she had to compete in multiple fashion runways, including wearing a selection of swimwear, sparkling dresses, and evening gowns.

Although Natisia shared with the Wandsworth Times that she had “shy tendencies”, she overcame the nerves and made an all-out-effort whilst competing at the prestige pageant.

She added: “When I was younger, I was really shy.

“I still have shy tendencies, but when I was on stage, the adrenaline kept me going and I just wanted to win.”

Although pageants can stem controversial opinions, Natisia shared that the experience was “liberating” and can “open new doors to new careers”.

She explained: “I believe being thrown into difficult situations can strengthen your resilience.

“The pageants can help you develop your walk smile and even how you talk.

“They can also open new doors to new careers.

“I’m all about female empowerment, and the pageant itself is very liberating.”

Now, Natisia aka NUBIAN is preparing to release her second single and is planning to collab with another artist as well as perform to a live audience.

Natisia said: “I’m feeling excited for the future.

“Obviously I still have nerves, but I know this is my one opportunity and I have to remain confident.

“I think my pageant history has helped with my confidence as I am no stranger to the stage.

“I know I just have to push my nerves to the side and go for it.”
