Violin "queen" Anne-Sophie Mutter to give recital in May
********************************************************

Hailed by London's The Times as "the undisputed queen of violin-playing", Anne-Sophie Mutter will soon make her much-anticipated return to Hong Kong.

On this occasion Mutter will play Debussy's "Violin Sonata in G Minor, L140", Mendelssohn's "Violin Sonata in F (1838)", Mozart's "Violin Sonata in B-flat, K454" and Sarasate's "Carmen Fantasy" with long-time partner pianist Lambert Orkis. The recital will take place at 8pm on May 1 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Anne-Sophie Mutter's career has combined exceptional musicianship with an unwavering commitment to the future of classical music. Since her international debut at the age of 13 at the Lucerne Festival in 1976, followed by a solo appearance with Herbert von Karajan at the Salzburg Whitsun Concerts, Mutter has appeared in all the major concert halls of Europe, North and South America and Asia and worked with the most distinguished orchestras and conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, James Levine, Kurt Masur and Valery Gergiev.

Cited by The Chicago Tribune for doing more than "any living violinist to enrich the late 20th century violin repertory", Mutter is an avid champion of 20th and 21st century violin-playing in both orchestral and chamber music settings, in addition to producing accomplished recordings of the instrument's established masterpieces.
