Tower Hamlets is the most generous borough in London, new research has revealed.

Data from sharing app OLIO shows that Tower Hamlets had the most people offer to give away unwanted household items for free this year, followed closely by Wandsworth and Lambeth.

Regular OLIO user Zoe Lord, who has shared 32 pre-loved items over the past 12 months, said: "Tower Hamlets is a hugely diverse area.

"This not only means that there is a greater need for sharing because of varying economic backgrounds, but also I like to think that this diversity means that people are a lot more aware of people's varying needs."

This comes as OLIO prepares to launch Share Saturday, a virtual sharing event that comes after Black Friday.

OLIO hopes to make tomorrow (November 26) the biggest ever day for passing on pre-loved items.

Tessa Clarke, co-founder and CEO, added: "At a time when so many people are struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table, mass consumer shopping events like Black Friday are perpetuating this idea that now is the time for Brits to spend, spend, spend.

"It doesn’t need to be this way... I can’t wait to see how many items we can rehome on Share Saturday and hope the rest of London follows in Tower Hamlets’ generous footsteps."
