3-Year-Old Virginia Girl FaceTimes To Save Dad's Life

Faced with the scary situation of her dad having a stroke, 3-year-old Molly McCabe knew just what to do.

WINCHESTER, VA — Molly McCabe is only 3 years old, but she proved she knew how to react in an urgent situation. On July 4, when her dad had a sudden stroke, the girl saved his life with a phone call to her mom.

“She did a FaceTime call, and she was so brave, and she told me that daddy got sick, and she showed me where daddy was, and so I saw him lying on the ground," her mother Devon McCabe told NBC Washington.

According to a GoFundMe page set up for the family, Trevor McCabe, 27, suffered a stroke resulting from a blood clot to his basilur artery, or at his brain stem. He was initially treated at Winchester Medical Center and was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital. At the hospital, he was administered Tissue Plasminogen Activator (tPA) to break down the blood clot and underwent surgery to remove parts of his skull.

In an update Monday, Devon McCabe wrote on the GoFundMe page that Trevor is off the ventilator and has gotten out of bed to his chair. She says he struggles to swallow, speak and controlling his movements but has kept a positive attitude and is "all smiles."

The road to recovery will be long, but Trevor is "showing signs of progress that completely shock and surprise us, and doctors are very hopeful about recovery," according to the GoFundMe page.

The GoFundMe page will support Trevor's care during his recovery and has raised over $44,000 so far. Devon and Trevor McCabe have two kids: 3-year-old Molly and a 1-year-old.

"The gifts, well wishes, positive thoughts, and prayers have meant the world to us, wrote Devon McCabe. "To feel our community rally around us during this time has been so humbling. Thank you for supporting us through all means: financial, emotional, and even physical. We love you."

Meanwhile, Molly gets to don a superhero cape for her life-saving action.

"You were so brave when you called Mama, and you did such a good job," Devon McCabe told NBC Washington. "They're here because you're a hero, like a superhero."
