Indonesian Vice President Opens ASEAN Islamic Conference in Bali

VIVA – Indonesian Vice President, Ma'ruf Amin opens the 2nd ASEAN Islamic Conference at the Hilton Bali Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday, December 22, 2023. In his remarks, Ma'ruf Amin invited all Muslims in Indonesia and ASEAN to optimize the momentum of the conference as well as possible.
"Hopefully, this conference can further strengthen the position of the ummah in the global arena," the Vice President said.
Ma'ruf Amin hopes that the conference can generate prospects, strengthen cooperation between countries, foster prospects, and strengthen cooperation between ASEAN countries and Saudi Arabia in various aspects, especially in the field of research education to accelerate a superior generation that has competitiveness.
"May the conference bestow blessings and benefits to the nation, state, and Islamic community of Indonesia and ASEAN. The main thing is how we rebuild, so ASEAN and world Muslims regain the title of 'khairu ummah', as the ummah once had in the early days under the leadership of the Prophet Muhammad," Ma'ruf Amin stated.

The Vice President then officially opened the 2nd ASEAN Islamic conference, “By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I officially declare the 2nd ASEAN Islamic Conference open.”
Indonesian Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi was grateful for the 2nd ASEAN Islamic Conference being held in Bali. According to him, the selevtion of Bali as a meeting place has a fundamental reason, besides Bali as a beautiful location.
"Bali is a meeting point for international communities from all over the world with an open and friendly disposition. This diversity is followed by people who coexist in differences," Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi said.
He said the theme of the conference, "khairu ummah", means the best people. He emphasized that individuals who successfully practice religious moderation will be the best people because they are able to be moderate and fair in their views.
According to him, khairu ummah will be realized through mutual respect and love, "Khairu ummah are those who have the greatest compassion for fellow human beings,"
Indonesia is hosting the 2nd ASEAN Level Islamic Conference which is a collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Da'wah, and Counseling of Saudi Arabia.
The conference is scheduled to take place on December 22 to 23, 2022 in Bali and will be attended by around 140 participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Timor Leste, and Saudi Arabia.
Several speakers comprising ulamas, academicians, and leaders of Islamic community organizations from Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Saudi Arabia present at the event.
