Next up, Empire State Games! Lake Placid prepares to host another major sporting event

Fresh off the World University Games, Lake Placid and the surrounding area in the Adirondacks is getting ready to host the Empire State Winter Games.

Fresh off the World University Games, Lake Placid and the surrounding area in the Adirondacks is getting ready to host the Empire State Winter Games.

The games are expected to attract 2,000 athletes competing in more than 30 events in Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, and Paul Smiths, starting February 2nd.

The games are for amateur athletes across New York State ranging in age from 8 to 80.

Two torch relays for the event kick off on opposite ends of the state on Sunday — one leaving from New York City, the other from Holiday Valley ski area south of Buffalo.

The torches will make stops in Watertown, Ticonderoga, and Tupper Lake before arriving in Lake Placid for the opening ceremony on Thursday, February 2nd. The Empire State Winter Games run through Sunday, February 5th.
