Las Vegas man gets prison time for string of store robberies

A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to prison as a repeat offender, after committing a slew of robberies while on supervised release for an earlier conviction, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.

Alfonzo Dale Lobas, 34, pleaded guilty in November 2022 to three counts of interference with commerce by robbery, the attorney’s office said. He admitted to, in each robbery, approaching the cashier, demanding money and brandishing an air pistol, which appeared to be a handgun, to intimidate them.

He told a cashier in one instance to “empty the register and hurry up,” and told a witness during another robbery that he did it “because it’s fun.”

Lobas committed the robberies — which occurred between Jan. 16-28, 2022, at three gas stations and convenience stores — just months after he began supervised release in November 2021 for an earlier conviction for another series of robberies.

The FBI and Metro Police investigated the case against Lobas, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Dan Cowhig prosecuting.

U.S. District Judge James C. Mahan sentenced Lobas on Wednesday to four years and nine months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, the attorney’s office said.
