Long-running Olympia indie record label K Records is holding a moving sale this Saturday, March 17, at 10 am. Run by Beat Happening/Dub Narcotic Sound System creative catalyst Calvin Johnson, the company is selling the complete contents of its offices at 802 Jefferson St. SE, where K has been located since 2004. The items include all types of furniture, computers, electronic devices, sound gear (including '60s-vintage cabinet-mounted Altec-Lansing speakers), instruments, records, CDs, cassettes, and even a Magic Chef gas stove. Go here for more details.

As detailed in this 2016 Stranger feature, K boss Johnson had fallen behind on royalty payments to many of K's artists, but in the article he maintained that the label would persevere. "We're always going to be here," Johnson told me in an interview back then. "We'll find a way. We're very adaptable. We will continue in whatever form."

So what's the reason for this everything-must-go sale? Johnson explains: "We moved out of the Temple building last summer into an office on Capitol Way N. in downtown Olympia. The building has been on the market for over two years. There is an offer that has been accepted and may close soon, so we are removing the last of our belongings from the premises."

That's good to hear. I thought it might've meant something more ominous.
