Dog in Easton attack not on the loose, officer says

Easton animal control was continuing Friday to investigate a vicious dog attack Wednesday that injured a 4-year-old girl and her family's pet dog on South Side.

The attacking dog, described as a pit bull by the victim's mother, was not in custody but was not running loose, animal control officer Amy Gruber.

"The public doesn't need to worry," she said Friday afternoon.

The investigation was continuing into who owns the dog.

Khloe Rose was bitten on the left thigh after her pet, Doggie, was attacked by the dog, who had broken free from a fenced-in yard, according to Khloe's mother, Kristi Heinick.

It occurred about 11:30 a.m. as Heinick and Khloe were walking with Doggie in an alley to the rear of the 100 block of Kleinhans Street. The attacking dog ran off and could not immediately be located, according to animal control.

Khloe was taken by ambulance to Easton Hospital and needed stitches and antibiotics, as well as a series of rabies vaccinations that will continue for the next two weeks, her mother said.
