Laurel swears in five new police officers

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Five men were sworn in as Laurel police officers on Monday. Adam Cochran, Robert Harbour, Stephen Graeser, Jason Mills and Mathew Hartfield were sworn into the ranks by Mayor Johnny Magee during a ceremony at Laurel City Hall.

"We are glad to have them because we do a great job, but with more people we can do an even better job," said Mayor Magee.

According to Mayor Magee, most of the new officers have previous training or experience.

  • Cochran has 8 years of law enforcement experience and returns to LPD after a short stint at JCJC.
  • Harbour is a 2012 graduate of the Mississippi Delta Community College Law Enforcement Training Academy and has 2 years experience at DeKalb and Brooksville Mississippi Police Departments.
  • Graeser is a 3013 graduate of the Southern Regional Public Safety Institute.
  • Mills is a 2009 graduate of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy and comes with 6 years of experience with the Ellisville Police Department.
  • Hartfield is a 2013 graduate of the Southern Regional Public Safety Institute.


"With the swearing in of these five officers I'm happy to say that we're at full staff and within our budget," said Laurel Police Chief Tyrone Stewart. "We have fifty-five sworn officers at this time on staff and we're excited.

Chief Stewart said the new officers will continue their education training to better serve the citizens in Laurel.
