The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will stock more than 300,000 catchable-size trout in dozens of inland trout waters across Wisconsin before the May 4 inland fishing season opener.

In St. Croix County, trout will be stocked in these inland waters:

  • Willow River: 1,339 Rainbow Trout
  • Willow Race: 268 Rainbow Trout
  • Perch Lake: 1,875 Rainbow Trout
  • Eau Galle River: 208 Brook Trout
  • Glen Lake: 500 Brook Trout

“Cold weather has delayed some of the stocking this year,” David Giehtbrock, DNR statewide fish production manager, stated in a news release, “but we still plan to have everything done by the May 4 opener.”

DNR fisheries crews have been stocking rainbow, brown and brook trout raised at Nevin, Osceola and St. Croix Falls state fish hatcheries. They've also been working with fishing club volunteers, students and others to help stock the fish raised under 21 cooperative-rearing agreements with the DNR.
