Seth Meyers' Son Born In The Lobby Of His West Village Building

Alexi Ashe gave birth to her second child in the middle of her apartment building's lobby.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Seth Meyers' son was born on Sunday in the middle of the West Village apartment lobby where he and his wife live, the late night talk show host told his audience Monday night.

Meyers and his wife, Alexi Ashe, were expecting their second child on Sunday before Ashe abruptly went into labor, he said. Meyers recounted the dramatic story in front of his live studio audience on Monday night. After Ashe started having contractions, Meyers explained, he called an Uber to drive them to the hospital.

"I figured we had plenty of time to get to the hospital," he said. "We basically get to the steps of our building, we're in the lobby and we're walking down the steps, and my wife just says 'I can't get in the car, I'm going to have the baby right now. The baby is coming.'"

"So we walk back in and we had to decide, do we go into the lobby or back into the elevator," Meyers continued. "My wife basically decided for us and she went and lied down in our lobby."

Meyers said he called 911 while Ashe was giving birth, and that the whole birth was over within a matter of minutes. First responders from the police department and FDNY both responded to the Meyers' apartment building. Meyers shared photos of him, his wife and their new son in the building lobby with emergency responders crowded around.

"We just moved in at the end of last year, I’m so glad that we are already co-op approved," Meyers joked.
