Three teenagers have been arrested after a man was stabbed in an attempted carjacking in Birmingham.

A 22-year-old man was left with life-threatening injuries after the incident in the Selly Oak area of the city.

Two boys aged 15 and 17 were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Sunday night and a 15-year-old girl was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to rob, West Midlands Police said.

Officers received a 999 call on Sunday morning after the victim was found suffering from multiple stab wounds in an alleyway off Heeley Road.

Detectives said the man and a friend had been chased into the alleyway by two teenagers who demanded the keys to their car.

The stabbing victim is being treated in hospital for wounds to his stomach and chest and remains in a critical condition.

West Midlands Police Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield said: “This is a shocking incident which has left a young man seriously ill in hospital.

“We believe the same offenders attacked a group in Selly Hill Road earlier in the day.

“In that incident, offenders described as black men aged around 18 and wearing scarves across their faces demanded money before fleeing empty-handed.

“We have recovered a silver Nissan Micra with a large dent in the roof which we believe to have been involved in both incidents and I am appealing for anyone who saw the car yesterday, or who has dash cam footage which could assist our investigation to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is urged to call West Midlands Police on 999 or Live Chat via WMP Online until midnight quoting log number 700 from 7 October.

Alternatively, they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
