The intercity bus service FlixBus is adding Muskegon to an express route that already includes travel to Detroit, East Lansing and Grand Rapids.

FlixBus announced its latest Midwest expansion Tuesday, April 18. Tickets are now available and the first Muskegon trips are set to depart Thursday, April 20, at the Muskegon Laundromat at 1490 E. Apple Avenue.

The new line will run Thursday through Monday with morning trips departing from Detroit at 10 a.m. and making stops in East Lansing, downtown Grand Rapids, Cascade Township, and Muskegon. Afternoon trips departing from Grand Rapids to Muskegon leave at 3:20 p.m. on those days.

Last month, FlixBus added connections in East Lansing and Grand Rapids, and launched its first cross-border connections to Toronto from Detroit. Other Michigan stops include Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Benton Harbor, Flint, Jackson, Kalamazoo, and Southfield, though some trips use Greyhound buses since FlixBus acquired Greyhound Lines in 2021.

Tickets for FlixBus rides are available online, here, and on the company’s FlixBus mobile app. A one-way trip from Detroit to Muskegon starts at $29.99, while Grand Rapids trips start at $26.99 and Detroit to East Lansing trips start at $21.99. All trips include a $3.99 service fee, and there are costs to select your seat or choose to sit without a neighbor.

Bus service includes free WiFi, on-board entertainment, and power outlets. Riders can bring one carry-on bag (max 25 pounds) and one stored bag (max 50 pounds). Additional bags come with further fees.

FlixBus is a 12-year-old German company with service in Europe, North America and Brazil. Since acquiring Greyhound Lines, the company said it has become the largest intercity bus network in the country with over 2,300 destinations.

Customers can book a Greyhound and/or FlixBus ride through the FlixBus system. Depending on the route, passengers may transfer from a FlixBus to a Greyhound bus.
