Macy's rival Belk is closing its Selma, Alabama, store after nearly two decades and is offering massive deals through its final day in business.

The department store has marked down all merchandise by 60 percent to give its customers in the area one final chance at a great bargain.

The Belk location will officially close on Monday, June 5, officials said.

'We are grateful for the contributions of our Selma associates and are providing them with support during the transition, including the opportunity to interview for a position at another Belk store,' Belk officials said in a statement to local media.

The company said the decision to close came after a 'careful review of our business.'

According to the Selma-Times Journal, the company purchased a lease for the property in 2015, which expires on Monday.

In a statement to the Selma-Times, Jessica Rohlik, Senior Manager of public relations for Belk said the store has been 'proud' to have operated for nearly 20 years.

'We have been proud to serve the Selma community for over 18 years and will be offering our customers 60% off everything in-store, starting on Monday, May 22, as a way to express our appreciation,' Rohlik said.

Sheryl Smedley, executive director for the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, told The Journal that locals are sad to see Belk go.

'We appreciate their investment into the community and the opportunity to provide goods, services, and employment not only to citizens of Selma/Dallas County but also surrounding communities,' she said.

According to Google, the store is open from 11am to 6pm Sunday and from 10am to 8pm on Monday.

The Belk closing mimics trends among many other retail stores throughout the United States so far in 2023.

At least 803 retail stores are set to be shut down over the rest of 2023 amid rampant inflation and a declining economic outlook

Other major retailers including JcPenney, Walmart, Best Buy, Macy's and Party City announced they will close stores this year.

GAP, the parent company of Old Navy and Banana Republic, has said they will close 350 locations by the end of 2023.

Best Buy announced in March it would be closing 17 stores across the country, and that it was planning to shutter up to 30 by the end of 2023.

CVS CEO Karen Lynch said earlier this year that it plans to close 900 stores nationwide by the end of 2026, with at least 300 stores closing annually for the next three years.

Similarly, Walgreens will also be closing a number of its more than 9,000 stores.

Sears, Macy's, and JcPenney have all announced a series of closures, as well.

Walmart officials said they are shuttering 12 underperforming locations in nine states and Washington, DC.
