June business basics class slated at Terra

FREMONT - The Ohio Small Business Development Center at Terra State Community College will offer free, three-hour seminars, “Small Business Basics,” that will answer questions about starting, buying or expanding a small business.

A session will be offered 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 21 at Terra State Community College, 2830 Napoleon Road, Doepker Leadership and Entrepreneurial Center, Building B, Room 103. The class is free and public.

Gun buyback slated for St. Paul's on Saturday

FREMONT - St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, in cooperation with the City of Fremont, will present a gun buyback and Guns to Gardens.

The gun buyback offers a no-questions-asked opportunity to turn in guns for cash. The buyback will take place 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 10, (or until funds run out) in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church side alley at 206 N. Park Ave.

Firearms must be unloaded and transported in the trunk of the vehicle. Participants will remain in vehicles and will not be permitted to manipulate firearms at the event. Each individual is limited to $600 buyback total.

Guns to Gardens also will be Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Local blacksmith Carolyn Powers will turn guns into garden tools, on site. Additionally, there will be local musicians, children’s activities, food and beverages available for purchase, and other important local organizations sharing information about gun violence, gun safety awareness and mental health awareness. Both events are free and open to the public.

Put-in-Bay Founder's Day is Saturday

SOUTH BASS ISLAND - Put-in-Bay's Founders Day will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at DeRivera Park. The day started 49 years ago and is a long-standing tradition where the community comes together to appreciate its rich history and cherish community spirit.

The community organizations, churches and the school participate with food, games and fun for all, such as the popular Shore Cakes that have become a staple at the event. Shore Cakes are the hit of the day with a fresh strawberries dessert, a must-have while at the event. Next year, Founders Day will celebrate its 50th year. This year, Put-in-Bay is putting the Founder back in Founders Day. P-I-B Historical Society, Nature and Wildlife Center, Pooch Parade, P-I-B Twirlers and kids' games will be on hand to round out the day.

Evening Out with Art sent for June 12

PORT CLINTON - The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council will have its June “Evening Out with Art” artists series featuring Port Clinton native and artist Keith Fleming. Join Fleming at 6 pm. June 12 at The Arts Garage (TAG) for this free evening discussing folk art and how it has influenced Fleming’s creative process.

The Arts Garage, home of the Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council, is in the city’s old maintenance garage, 317 W. Perry St.

Arts and Crafts fest planned for Saturday

PORT CLINTON - The Greater Port Clinton Area Arts Council’s 30th annual Arts and Crafts Festival will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Waterworks Park.

Nearly 50 artists and crafters from around the Midwest will take place in this annual tradition at the park near the beautifully restored Port Clinton Lighthouse and Portage River. Admission is free.

Parking is near the Jefferson Street pier and along the parking lot to the northwest of the park.
