Crestview board welcomes new staffers

CONVOY — The Crestview Local Board of Education welcomed new staff members during its August meeting on Thursday.

Several one-year employment contracts were approved by the board, as follows: Shawna Putman, middle school and high school intervention specialist; Aaron George, high school social studies teacher; Casey Dowler, elementary teacher; Jennifer Buffenbarger, food services employee; and Courtney Smart, elementary paraprofessional. Dan Miller was also granted a one-year limited contract as a bus driver.

A number of supplemental contracts were also approved by the board, as follows: Jim Wharton, baseball head coach; Gregg Mosier, baseball junior varsity coach; Terry Crowle, baseball varsity assistant; Doyle Sheets, baseball eighth grade coach; Matt Perkins, baseball seventh grade coach; Carl Etzler, softball head coach; Lindsay Ebbeskotte, softball junior varsity (40 percent) coach; Chad Pugh, softball junior varsity (60 percent) coach; Lori Hammons, softball eighth grade coach; Morgan Hicks, softball seventh grade coach; James Lautzenheiser, track head coach; Randy Grandstaff, track varsity assistant coach; Ben Kaufman, track varsity assistant coach; Hannah Phlipot, track varsity assistant coach; Allison Reindel, track middle school coach; George, sophomore class advisor; Shawna Putman, junior grade class advisor; and George, senior government trip advisor.

The following volunteer coaches were also approved by the board for the 2015-2016 school year: Mike Hammons, middle school softball; Bob Perkins, high school softball; Sara Owens, high school track; Meghan Henry, middle school softball; Owen Pugh, high school softball; and Shawn Schuette, middle school track.

The board also approved Paul Cearns, Jennifer Daugherty, Gregory Emerick, Doug Germann, Eric Hancock, Glenn Hicks, Bradley Hughes, David Ray, Michael Saylor, Shannon Smith and Tracey Wolford as volunteer drivers for the box van for swing choir and band equipment.

In addition, the board accepted the resignation of Susan Volts as assistant treasurer after serving 26 years with the district, and Sue Duncan as elementary paraprofessional after 15 years with the district. Allison Reindel also resigned as junior class advisor.

Elementary Principal Kathy Mollenkopf; Middle School Principal Dave Bowen; and High school Principal Mike Biro also reported to the board at the meeting, and all three spoke of outstanding attendance for their individual open houses. Biro and the board also thanked the custodial staff on its excellent job preparing the school to start the year.

A list of substitute teachers, aides and school nurses from the Western Buckeye Educational Service Center was approved by the board, as well as subsequent revisions and any other Ohio certificated teachers, the classified employee substitute list and subsequent revisions for the 2015-2016 school year.

The board also accepted, with thanks, a generous donation of $1,225 from the Klein Trust of the Van Wert County Foundation for needy children.

In other action, the board:

  • Approved the bus routes for the 2015-2016 school year.
  • Approved the assessment instruments used for gifted identification.

The next meeting for the Crestview Local Board of Education will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, in the district boardroom.
