Estes, Billy Joe

Estes, Billy Joe 4Billy Joe Estes left us early on a Monday morning earlier this year quietly in his sleep – finally free of pain and at peace.

He leaves us with a plethora (he would love that word!) of memories and jokes, and two loving daughters – Connie Crockett (Mark) and Melissa Brown (Mike); five grandchildren, Taylor Crockett, Ethan Crockett (Abi), Austin Crockett (Jordan), Nicholas Brown (Julia), Jessica Brown (Brock); and three spirited great-granddaughters, Aubrie and Aria Crockett, and Olivia Jean Brown. He is also survived by his wife of 37 years, Josephine ‘Jody’ Red; sister-in-law, Terry Red Evans; aunt, Evelyn Harrison; brother, Michael ‘Bo’ Estes (Loretta); and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brinkley Junior Estes and Bertha Roop Estes; brother, Steve Estes (Patricia); sister, Linda ‘Sis’ Brown (Andy); and two brothers-in-law, Tilghman B. Evans and John W. Red, Jr..

A graduate of Auburn High School, he left basketball for the U.S. Army as a drill sergeant, a memorable stint at Volvo Trucks, running Riner Fire Department calls, and following his passion for painting and restoring automobiles and BLUEGRASS MUSIC.

A special thank you to his friends/caregivers at DaVita in Radford.

A Memorial Service is planned for Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, please give to the Humane Society or other charity close to your heart.

Farewell, B.J. We will miss you on this planet.
