Lukas Nelson & the Promise of the Real

Oct. 19, 8 p.m. | Tannahill’s Tavern and Music Hall, Fort Worth

Lukas Nelson and his longtime band will hit Tannahill’s Thursday night as part of his extensive headline tour this fall. The Grammy winner’s latest album, Sticks and Stones, was released over the summer to great acclaim, with the title track hitting the top of the Americana Albums chart. Get tickets.

Peter Gabriel

Oct. 19, 8 p.m. | American Airlines Center

Peter Gabriel is on the North American leg of his i/o-The Tour, hitting cities like Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. The two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer will make the rounds in Texas this week, including American Airlines Center and Austin’s Moody Center. Expect material from his upcoming i/o album on the setlist, but he’s made room for familiar songs like “Biko,” “Sledgehammer,” and, yes, “In Your Eyes,” too. Get tickets.

Gordy’s Hwy 30 Music Fest

Oct. 19-21 | Texas Motor Speedway, Fort Worth

After 14 years of success with the first Hwy 30 Music Fest in Idaho, Gordy and Meg Schrodeder have added Fort Worth to the mix. They expect at least 30,000 to 60,000 attendees during the four-day event, which will include headliners Dierks Bentley, Zach Bryan, Cody Jinks, and Koe Wetzel. Other acts include Gary Clark Jr., Shane Smith & The Saints, the Brothers Osborne, Mike and the Moonpies, Colbie Caillat, and Ray Wylie Hubbard. Get tickets.

Gayle

October 20, 8 p.m. | The Studio at the Factory

Fresh off a stint opening for Taylor Swift, Plano-born “ABCDEFU” chanteuse Gayle will perform in Deep Ellum Friday night. Too young for clubbing, or too tired for a late night? She’ll also perform a mini-set at Lucky Brand in the Galleria Dallas from 1-4 p.m. Friday, along with a meet-and-greet. (It’s free, but you’ll need to RSVP.)  Get tickets.

Nickel Creek

October 20, 8 p.m. | Majestic Theatre

Fans of Nickel Creek have waited nine long years for a new album, and they got it this year with the 18-track Celebrants. The bluegrass band formed 30 years ago and includes Chris Thile and siblings Sean and Sara Watkins. Its 2000 self-titled debut album went platinum, and the 2002 follow up won a Grammy. They recently performed on CBS Saturday Morning and Jimmy Kimmel Live! Get tickets.

Ben Folds

October 20-21 | Meyerson Symphony Center

Ben Folds may be hard to pin down musically—he had a hit with 1997’s “Brick,” but is also known for creating piano concertos and performing with orchestras. He’ll spend two days with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra performing his songs. Included will be his most recent album, What Matters Most, which he says will be his final rock album. Get tickets.

GLOW

October 20-21 | Mandalay Canal and Lake Carolyn, Irving

Las Colinas is celebrating its 50th birthday this year, and throwing a two-day party complete with interactive light installations on the Mandalay Canal, interactive art works, water-based and street performances, and music from DJ Babey Drew, Nik Parr, Bollywood dance troupe Ishaara, and Remy Reilly. Both nights end in fireworks. The event is free, but reservations are recommended. Get tickets.

EarthX Film & Music Festival

October 20-22 | Bishop Arts District

The 2023 EarthX Film & Music Festival will span three evenings and three venues in Oak Cliff’s Bishop Arts District—not counting the after parties each night. The festival opens Friday night with a screening of Common Ground at Texas Theatre, with Donna Missal performing at the after party at Casa del Vegano. Saturday night will offer a short film block and conversation, and will close with music from the Nick Rothouse Trio and cellist Ben Sollee. Sunday night will close at the Kessler Theater, with a series of short films and a performance by R&B artist Danielle Ponder. Get tickets.

The Music Critic feat. John Malkovich

Oct. 21, 8 p.m.| The Majestic Theatre

After the successful live video version of “The Music Critic” in 2020, Aleksey Igudesman, Hyung-ki Joo, and actor John Malkovich decided to take their show on the road. Written and Composed by Igudesman, Malkovich plays an “evil critic” who excoriates the likes of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and others before the grand finale—”The Malkovich Torment,” which showcases an especially bad review of the actor, set to music. Get tickets.

Nick Cave

October 22, 8 p.m. | Majestic Theatre

Nick Cave began a brief North American solo tour on September 19 in Asheville, North Carolina, and he will conclude it at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles at the end of the month. Before that happens, he’ll hit the Majestic Theatre Sunday night, bringing along Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood on bass. Expect a wide array of songs from his extensive catalog, including “Push the Sky Away,” “People Ain’t No Good,” “Jubilee Street,” and “Into My Arms.” Get tickets.
