Guided Tour of Valpo’s Old City Cemetery on Saturday

The Porter County Museum invites the public to join a guided tour of Valparaiso’s Old City Cemetery on Saturday. The event is free of charge, and no reservations are required. Participants are asked to meet at the cemetery’s gates at 403 Union Street at 2 p.m. for an hour’s walk highlighted by stories of many of the area’s pioneer families who are buried there.

The cemetery is the final resting place for a virtual ‘who’s who’ of our community, including mayors, county sheriffs, war veterans, and prominent businesspeople, according to Museum Executive Director Kevin Pazour.

Assisting Pazour at the event will be Steve Mockler, a local historian and Civil War expert, who is a member of the David D. Porter Camp #116 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Mockler will add his insights into the lives of Civil War soldiers who lie here.

Porter County Museum, located at 20 Indiana Avenue, in downtown Valparaiso, is open six days a week, Tuesday-Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free admission. For more information, visit pocomuse.org or find @pocomuse on social media.
