Chris Brubeck

The third son in the musical Brubeck family, Chris Brubeck is a composer, lyricist, orchestral arranger, musical educator, and performer who plays bass, bass trombone, guitar, and piano. He is equally at home playing jazz, rock, folk, funk, and classical music. Brubeck co-leads the Brubeck Brothers Quartet with brother and drummer Dan Brubeck, keyboardist Pete Levin, and guitarist Mike DeMicco. Chris Brubeck also tours and performs with Triple Play, which includes guitarist Joel Brown and harmonica virtuoso Peter "Madcat" Ruth. The group is know for its eclectic fusion of jazz, folk, and blues. Brubeck attended high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy. During his days as a bass trombone performance major at the University of Michigan, Chris led, toured, and recorded with his innovative rock bands, New Heavenly Blue and Sky King, dubbed "thinking man's funk" by one reviewer. The band's Columbia release received four stars in Downbeat and reached number 11 on the national college radio charts. Bach to Brubeck, featuring Brubeck, Bill Crofut, and Joel Brown as soloists with the London Symphony Orchestra, is the newest reflection of his multiple talents. In addition to creating the orchestral arrangements for the recording, Brubeck was the soloist in his original composition "Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra," a work that has already been performed by the International Trombone Festival, the Boston Pops, the Pittsburgh Symphony, and the Baltimore Symphony. In addition to "Convergence: Concerto for Orchestra" and "Concerto for Bass Trombone and Orchestra," Brubeck has composed and arranged for the Boston Pops, the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, the Aspen Wind Quintet, and the Manhattan Choral Festival. He has written three musicals and hundreds of songs, many of which have been recorded and released over the years. Brubeck is currently working on an orchestral piece for the Norwalk Youth Symphony and a piece for Frederica von Stade.
