Filipino culture will be celebrated with music and a lot of  food when a new festival comes to San Pedro in October.

Update: FAHMfest ended in an empty parking lot and bankruptcy

Tickets are on sale for FAHMfest, (Filipino American Heritage Month) which is expected to attract up to 10,000 people per day to Berth 46 in San Pedro Oct. 16-17 for a weekend that so far includes nearly two dozen musical acts and more than 50 food vendors. More music and food is expected to be added before October, organizers say.

“We want our community to have a platform to perform and we want to highlight our culture,” said Lulu Williams, one of the festival’s co-founders.

Organizers also want to celebrate and help local artists and businesses post-pandemic, and to “bring back everyone and just have a party,” she said.

The festival will include two stages for live music and will feature pop, rap, R&B, reggae and old school Filipino music, she said.

“Our culture is very diverse in our music tastes so we want to have something for everyone,” Williams said.

So far, performers on the bill include hip-hop fusion artist Spawnbreezie, Bay Area rapper P-Lo, and DJ Icey Ice from the Beat Junkies.

The food vendors currently on board include downtown L.A.-based Filipino spot Petite Peso, chocolate chip cookie specialist Bake Some Noise, Satay LA, Long Beach’s Mussels & Pearls and Filipino pop-up Calajo Catering.

“We’re going to have a lot of fusion food, some Filipino, Korean, Hawaiian, Chinese, you name it,” Williams said.

The festival will also include a fashion show, cultural performances including folk dancing and an art show.
