Concert-Going: A necessity for every college student

An important aspect of every college student’s life: their playlist. The stress, anxiety, busyness, and excitement of college can all be encompassed, it seems, by our favorite artists. The only thing better than listening to your songs on repeat is hearing them live, in person.

Living at the UW means having the city of Seattle and all its resources at our fingertips. As a city steeped in culture, one of the most prevalent and discerning things Seattle is known for is its music scene. Allowing for the creation of artists and bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Jimi Hendrix (simply to name some of my personal favorites), the city is renowned for its creativity and ability to foster individuality. As a college student living in a place so recognized for its musical stage, I can’t help but seek out the various infamous venues in hopes that some of my ‘most listened to’ artists will make an appearance. Given Seattle’s status as a musical locust, the city is a ‘must-stop’ location for many performers. Luckily for the students of UW, transit throughout Seattle is free, and websites such as AXS and TicketMaster provide an easy, cheap ability to purchase tickets (last minute or months in advance). For those who wish to explore the city, listen to their favorite artists, or just have something to do on a weeknight, below is a short list of performers coming to some of the more popular Seattle venues within the coming months!

The Showbox and The Showbox SoDo

The Showbox is located at 1426 1st Ave, while the Showbox SoDo (another location owned by the same company) is next to Lumen Field. Known for their intimacy and personal nature, these venues are a favored choice for artists on tour. Hosting numerous artists a week, some of the more popular and well-known performers that will be making an appearance this month include Earl Sweatshirt with the Alchemist performing on November 7th, Nessa Barret performing on November 15th, and TV Girl performing on December 6th.

The Neptune Theatre

Located in U-District (right off the Ave!) is a venue known for its ambiance and history. Named a Seattle landmark, the Neptune Theatre often offers discounts to UW students and will host artists such as SYML on November 17th, Deap Vally on November 19th, and Katatonia on November 26th.

The Crocodile

The Crocodile, a popular and loved Seattle venue, has been ranked as one of the ‘best clubs in the U.S.’ by Rolling Stone. Currently located at 2505 1st Ave, the Crocodile recently changed locations to allow more space for a larger audience. Within the next month, artists such as Del Water Gap, playing November 11th; Royal and the Serpent, playing November 13th; and Polyrhythmics, playing November 24th, will be making an appearance.

College students are granted countless opportunities. As a way to destress and explore, concert-going (especially when it is a beloved artist) is a simple way to expand one’s music taste, experience, and knowledge. By attending the UW in Seattle, we have a plethora of incredible venues, artists, and culture at our disposal- we should make use of it.

Ella Goulet

Washington '27

Hi! My name is Ella Goulet and I am a freshman at the UW. I plan to double major in psychology and political science with a minor in history or journalism. I love writing and spend most of my free time journaling or working on short stories. Back in Alexandria, VA (my hometown), I was a chief editor for my high school's literary magazine, "Cambridge Road." I recently joined the HER campus writing team, and I am extremely excited to begin working for them.   My favorite topics to write about include mental healthy, current events, and ways to take advantage of living in the Seattle area (as I am a new resident), so you will find a lot of information about those topics on my page. I plan to continue my writing career at the UW and for Her Campus throughout my time here, and hope to become a writer for The Daily.
