I-81 will be down to one lane again today thanks to road work

The continuation of a project on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County will result in another lane restriction on Wednesday.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., crews will close a single northbound lane at mile marker 55.7 approaching the bridge over the Conodoguinet Creek in Silver Spring Township to conduct sub-surface drainage work, according to a news release from PennDOT.

That work started over the weekend, but crews were unable to finish it. The interstate was restricted to a single lane Tuesday so crews could keep working.

PennDOT spokeswoman Fritzi Schreffler said in an email Tuesday that county officials are trying to break up the work so it’s not a burden on traffic for as many hours.

“Crews will be out one day next week to do a final pave but that should finish the work,” she wrote.

Motorists are encouraged to find different routes or allow extra time for commutes.
