A Ewen man’s Ontonagon County Circuit Court drug case has been dismissed.

29-year-old Keith Raymond is now being charged federally because he knowingly possessed a Norinco Model SKS, 7.26x39mm rifle and 29 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition while being on probation.

According to the criminal complaint, on September 8, 2017, Raymond received a sentence of 10 months confinement and 23 months probation for felony assault with a dangerous weapon in Ontonagon County courts.

The complaint states that a confidential informant from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team arranged to purchase 3.5 grams of meth and a SKS rifle from Raymond in Ewen on June 20, 2018. After the purchase was completed, the CI informant turned over the aforementioned firearm and ammunition to ATF by Sergeant Wickstrom of UPSET on August 8, 2018. The transaction was audio and video recorded.

The complaint states the firearm and ammunition Raymond had sold to the informant was manufactured in Russia, thus, they traveled in or affected “interstate or foreign commerce.”

Raymond is currently being held in Ontonagon County Jail as a result of this arrest, as well as additional narcotics charges.

There’s no scheduled court date set at this time.
