A guide to local favorites in Coronado

Coronado isn’t the most convenient beach community: You have to get there via bridge, ferry or very long car ride. But it’s definitely the most beautiful, with a picturesque skyline and a beach ranked regularly among the best in the United States. It’s also a vacation destination that has welcomed presidents and celebrities. Spend a day in Coronado’s golden haze and you’ll understand why L. Frank Baum took up residence here to write sequels to “The Wizard of Oz.”
Meet Nina Garin
Nina is a San Diego native who was also partly raised in Baja California, Mexico. She’s an arts journalist who, as a reluctant stage mother to two daughters, spends more time in theaters than the outdoors. Although she lives a few blocks from the ocean, she’s never been surfing and is too terrified of rip currents to try.
