Tell us three things about yourself . . .

My name is Pody Muldoon, I play Bass in Stout Talk and the only thing dodgier than my moustache is my knee.

How would you describe your music?

I'm not too sure. Usually, I am very poor at describing music. But I guess you could call it indie rock or alt rock; those would be the broadest terms you could say but I’d like to think we play a wide enough variety of songs. For example, we can go from super slow and chilled out song to a high energy metal-esque banger. We like to change things up a lot live, our improvisational style means a song never sounds the same live twice. The musical styles of our band members vary so much. Cahir our singer will write like a Magnetic Fields song and our lead guitarist Cormac is constantly trying to make us a Midwest Emo band, Ciaran on rhythm brings a real rootsy sound and Lee on drums just does whatever he wants on stage, to great effect, usually.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Me personally there are loads Viagra Boys, The Breeders, Amyl and the Sniffers, Fontaines D.C. Too many to mention but those are a few. I can’t speak too much for the rest of the lads because our musical listening avenues are quite vast but there are definitely some mutually agreed upon class artists like Black Country New Road, Kojaque, Fontaines D.C., NewDad, The Strokes, stuff like that.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

My first big gig was Slipknot and Suicidal Tendencies in 2016 at the SSE Arena in Belfast. It was on the .5 The Gray Chapter tour. I so vividly remember seeing go absolutely mental how heavy the drums felt in my chest. I’ll always remember the first song was The Negative One. It was at Fontaines D.C.'s 2019 gig in the Ulster Hall where Ciaran, Cormac and me first met. Actually, I believe it was the first proper gig they had been to outside of Omagh. I think you can draw the start of Stout Talk back to that night.

What was the first record you ever bought?

The first album I ever sought out and bought for myself was Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex, I was mad about electronic music back then and still am. Earlier in life I remember CDs from my parents’ car like the single for Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car and The Dubliners Greatest Hits.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Impossible to choose one so I’ll say three. Speed Drive - Charlie XCX. ECDYSIS - Yard & YINYANG. Trom II (A Slip in the Wind) - The Scratch. For Speed Drive, I really like the balance it’s walking between mainstream pop and hyper-pop, it feels really Laura Les inspired and it’s so addictive.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"You’re damned if you do, you’re damned if you don’t. So, you might as well just do whatever you want" - Kacey Musgraves

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Too tough of a question but maybe Take It Easy by Eagles, feel like it has a good message for life.

Where can people find your music/more information?
