Amarillo Symphony invites first responders, veterans to Happy Holiday Pops Concert

The Amarillo Symphony will honor area veterans and first responders with its first ever Heroes Night, including Christmas performances and more, on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.

The event is a special addition to the Amarillo Symphony's annual Happy Holiday Pops concert series, allowing veterans and first responders to receive free admission to the performance, and up to four 50% off admission tickets to family members.

During the event, heroes and their families will enjoy their favorite holiday music, featuring a mix of carols, timeless classics, and an interactive sing-a-long, including well-known holiday classics such as "Silent Night," "Joy to the World," "Deck the Halls" and many more.

According to Larry Lang, executive director of the Amarillo Symphony, this is the first heroes night the symphony has held and was something he had been looking to implement in the area for a while.

"I have been here for a little over a year now, and I have been looking for that extra special way to honor our veterans and first responders," Lang said.

"Of course, we always dedicate our performance to them in Hodgetown when we play the Armed Forces Medley. We also honored our veterans recently at St. Mary's with our Brass Quintet performance, but this is our first big holiday concert where we can offer a free night for them, and we are very excited to honor them," Lang added.

During the event, current military, veterans, and all first responders including EMS, EMT, fire fighters, police, law enforcement and more are invited to attend with their families.

To cap off the program, all in the audience are invited to participate in the singalong portion of the performance, and visit with Santa following the performances.

"This is just a family oriented holiday event that we would like to become a tradition here in Amarillo as we continue to honor our heroes each year," Lang said.

Veterans and first responders are also welcome to redeem their free tickets for the Saturday, Dec. 16 performances happening at 2 and 7:30 p.m.

Limited tickets are still available. Heroes can get their free tickets by calling the Amarillo Symphony office at 806-376-8782 or going online to amarillosymphony.org.

Heroes Night at Happy Holiday Pops is sponsored by Happy State Bank, Caviness Beef Packers, and Julia Pierce.
