Halfmoon man, 77, accused of shooting at police

A 77-year-old man was arrested Thursday for allegedly firing shots at police when they responded to his Halfmoon mobile home.

Michael J. Zirpoli is charged with five counts of first-degree reckless endangerment.

This stemmed from a call police received at around 1:24 a.m. reporting shots fired at the Crescent City Mobile Home Park on Route 9. When investigating the incident, police were met with gunfire, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office special operations team and crisis negotiations unit also responded to the scene along with New York State Police.

After a four-hour standoff, Zirpoli was taken into custody without further incident.

He was arraigned in Halfmoon Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
