Lexington native turned Broadway star gets key to the city

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — From the bluegrass to Broadway, this Lexington native just received a key to the city from Mayor Linda Gorton.

Colton Ryan, Tony nominee, actor and performer came back to the city of Lexington for “Concert with the Stars.”

You can see his face on TV, the stage or this weekend here in your hometown of Lexington.

Colton Ryan has starred in the Broadway shows Dear Evan Hansen and New York New York in which he was nominated for a Tony.

He’s also appeared on TV in the shows The Girl from Plainville and Little Voice.

But as far as he goes in his career, he says he credits the people here in Lexington at the school for the creative and performing arts for helping him discover who he is.

“The teachers that I was afforded here in Lexington at the School for the Creative and Performing Arts, they saw me completely before I could even see myself,” Ryan said.

That is why he has returned for the Lexington Theatre Company’s concert with the stars.

“We have a real star here. He’s a wonderful example of what hard work and determination produce, I know it’s got to be hard work. It can be,” said Gorton.

In addition to his homecoming, he received a key to the city from Gorton.

If you want to see his performance alongside other talented individuals, the concert is taking place this Saturday at 8 at the Lexington Opera House.
