Jane Simms, 52, of Mt. Pleasant, was in good condition Thursday at a Johnstown hospital after her pickup truck was struck by a car and rolled over twice in Derry Borough.

Simms’ passenger, Blaine Long, was treated and released at Excela Latrobe Hospital. The driver of the car - Donna Dolan, 65, of Greensburg - was taken to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, where her condition wasn’t available.

Dolan, who was approaching on North Ligonier Street in a RAV4, mistakenly accelerated on to Route 217, striking the rear door and bed on the driver’s side of the northbound truck, Derry Police Chief Randy Glick said. The truck rolled over twice, landing on its wheels, and both vehicles came to rest blocking the highway, he said.

Firefighters freed the entrapped motorists, and the vehicles were towed. Simms was taken to the Paskovitch soccer field just outside town, was transferred to a medical helicopter and was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown.

Firefighters from Derry, Bradenville and Blairsville responded.
