San Francisco 49ers cornerback Jason Verrett may be coming off of a torn Achilles, but he expects to be ready for training camp next month, according to Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area.

“It’s been good,” Verrett said. “Training staff and strength coaches are all doing well. I feel like I’m on track to be ready for training camp and the rest of the season.”

Verrett, who spent the first five seasons of his career with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers, signed a one-year, $3.6 million deal with the 49ers back in March.

The 27-year-old missed the entire 2018 campaign after suffering his Achilles injury last July.

“It’s hard,” Verrett said. “It’s very hard. But it's about 30-40 days until training camp so from here, it’s just about getting back healthy.”

Verrett said he felt right at home as soon as he met with San Francisco, which is why he decided to sign with the Niners:

“My vibe was just good with the coaches when I came here, just seeing the direction they were going when I signed,” Verrett said. “It had nothing to do with the scheme.”

Verrett played his collegiate football at TCU and was originally selected by the Chargers in the first round (25th pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

It didn't take long for him to start making an impact, as he made the Pro Bowl as soon as his second season after totaling 47 tackles, three interceptions, 12 passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

However, injuries have limited Verrett to just five games since then, as he tore his ACL in 2016 and then had more knee issues in 2017.
