Department of Agriculture inspectors found problems with food storage and other problems at three local restaurants this week.

Starlight Diner on Carlisle Street in Hanover was out of compliance with 16 violations. The inspection report says the person in charge did not have adequate knowledge of food safety. Refrigeration units were too warm and holding food at an unsafe temperature. The walls, floors, and drains were “extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning,” and the plumbing system was not maintained “in good repair.”

Hokkaido Sushi and Hibachi on South Market Street in Elizabethtown was out of compliance with 14 violations. The inspection report says the person in charge did not have adequate knowledge of food safety and could not produce the required records showing raw fish was handled correctly. Raw chicken was stored in a way that could contaminate ready-to-eat food, and “soiled cardboard” was used to line shelves and cover equipment.

Issei Noodle on High Street in Carlisle was out of compliance with eight violations. The inspection report says refrigerated food was not being date-marked. Raw chicken and beef were stored in a way that could contaminate ready-to-eat food. The sanitizing solution wasn’t strong enough to actually sanitize, and temperature wasn’t being used to control potentially hazardous foods.

Establishments with no violations include Roda’s Coffee House in Lancaster, Cluggy’s in New Bloomfield, Ridgeside Bakery in Gratz, and Knotty Pine Tavern in York.
