Naperville woman accused of entering wrong apartment, beating 77-year-old

A Naperville woman has been accused of breaking into an apartment and beating an elderly woman in town.

Authorities believe Jacqueline Pena, 19, was drunk and possibly high, and mistook an apartment building on Valley Drive for another in which she lived, according to DuPage County court records.

The attack happened at 5:25 a.m. Friday, according to court records.

A resident of a building in the 400 block of Valley Drive alleged Pena kicked at the door of his first-floor apartment but he prevented her from entering. Pena then allegedly went into another unit, authorities said.

The resident, a 77-year-old woman, told authorities she was awoken by Pena hitting her in the head and throat. The victim said she did not know Pena.

According to court records, Pena was still in the apartment when police arrived, and maintained throughout her arrest and booking that she lived in the apartment.

But she lived in the same numbered apartment in the building next door, according to court records.

Pena is charged with felony trespassing and aggravated battery to a person 60 years or older. She also is charged with two counts of criminal damage to property.

While awaiting trial, Pena must wear a GPS monitor and an alcohol monitor; not drink or take intoxicating substances; and stay 1,000 feet away from the victim and the victim’s residence.
