Warrant out for 3rd suspect in deadly I-77 shooting

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Authorities have charged a third suspect in an August shooting on Interstate 77 that killed a driver.

Giovanni D. Porter, 23, of Carrollton, Texas, has been charged with murder for his alleged involvement in the death of 23-year-old Marquise Banks of Akron on Aug. 3, according to a Tuesday news release from Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree.

According to authorities, the passenger of a pickup truck shot several rounds into an SUV driven by Banks while both were traveling south on I-77 in Green, striking Banks several times. The SUV then went through the median and into the oncoming lanes and ran into another vehicle.

Firefighters transported Banks and the driver of the other vehicle to a hospital, where Banks was pronounced dead.

Sirvonte Russel Suggs, 18, and Ahmere Dretwan Morris Williams, 20, both of Akron, were both indicted on counts of aggravated murder, murder and felonious assault, court records show. Suggs also faces additional firearms charges.

Each is being held on a $1 million bond and is due back in court on Feb. 20, court records show.

Authorities also charged Porter with murder, based on new information. A warrant is out for his arrest. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call their local police department or the Summit County Sheriff’s Office at 330-643-2131.

Detectives believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute.

Akron police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency assisted in the investigation.
