A Putnam County woman was charged after police said she admitted to killing a pet lizard during a dispute with her significant other.

Hannah Nicole Jones, 19, of Hurricane is charged with domestic battery and animal cruelty in connection with an incident early Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County Magistrate Court.

Police originally responded to an apartment complex in the Hurricane area for a domestic dispute where they found a man who said he’d allegedly been hit with a curtain rod by Jones.

The man said a verbal argument escalated after he called her a derogatory name, the complaint said.

Police said Jones admitted to throwing flower pots against the wall, busting a fish tank and taking a pet gecko, putting it in a garbage disposal and turning it on.

Jones is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.
