Top 6 concerts to check out in the 6ix this February – from international big names to Canadian favourites

Toronto is the city in Canada that never sleeps, and how can we when there’s so much to do on every corner and multiple concerts going on seemingly every night? 

That’s why every month we’ll be rounding up concerts set to hit stages across the city. For February, we’ve rounded up six concerts going down in the 6ix and we’ve gone ahead and added some international heavy hitters and some local favourites.

1. Feb. 2 – Diplo presents Thomas Wesley, Liberty Grand

For the first time ever, Sports Illustrated is gearing up to bring its one-of-a-kind concert experience to the 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend in Toronto. Hockey fans and partygoers are welcome to join the night of celebration at Liberty Grand to kick off hockey’s big weekend on Feb. 2 at 9 p.m.

Guests can expect an opening set from local legend Frank Walker and a headline performance by Diplo presents Thomas Wesley.

Fun fact: Liberty Grand was built in 1926 and is one of Toronto’s few heritage complexes.

2. Feb. 9 – Joshua Weilerstein, Koerner Hall

Joshua Weilerstein is a guest conductor from New York who has toured around the globe working alongside some of the world’s finest orchestras and soloists. He is praised for his expressive and dynamic presence on the podium.

Weilerstein will do what he does best at Koerner Hall on Feb. 9 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., and will take the stage with The Royal Conservatory Orchestra (RCO).

Fun Fact: Koerner Hall is regarded as the greatest venue in this city and the RCO is known as one of the best training orchestras in North America.

3. Feb. 17 – Candlelight: A Tribute to Coldplay, Metropolitan Community Church

Candlelight concerts are all the rage in Toronto right now and it’s thanks to the show’s elevated listening experience and classical take on some of today’s biggest artists and hits. 

You can indulge in a complete tribute to Coldplay surrounded by thousands of candles that will illuminate the venue at the Metropolitan Community Church on Feb. 17, at 6:30 p.m.

4. Feb. 23 – Charlotte Cardin, Massey Hall

Montreal-born Charlotte Cardin is making her way to Toronto and bringing her powerful sounds to the stage at Massey Hall on Feb. 23 at 8 p.m.

The pop, electro and jazz singer is also a six-time JUNO Awards nominee, including for Songwriter of the Year and Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2018. 

She is known for using her bilingualism and merging English and French into her art and music writing like her most recent song “Feel Good.”

Fun Fact: Massey Hall opened in 1894 and is internationally famous as Canada’s most important venue for concerts.

5. Feb. 24-25 – Burna Boy, Scotiabank Arena

The African giant is coming to the 6ix, and it’s not a show you want to miss. He will take the stage at Scotiabank Arena on Feb. 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Burna Boy is rightfully dubbed the “King of Afrofusion” and is easily seen as one of the most influential African artists of his generation. His biggest inspiration is Fela Kuti, who is regarded as the father of Afrobeat. 

Interestingly, the artist’s grandfather, Benson Idonije, once managed Fela Kuti, so the love for the genre runs deep.

You can also attend the artist’s after party at Rebel on Feb. 24 at 10 p.m.

6. Feb. 25 – Opera In Concert: Ernani, Jane Mallett Theatre

Calling all opera lovers! You’ll want to check out Ernani, a four-act opera drama originally composed by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi on Feb. 25 at 2:30 p.m., at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts in the Jane Mallett Theatre.

The show will set the stage for Verdi’s three decades of extraordinary achievements and reveals his most “irresistibly melodic and dramatic” early drama that is full of sweeping melody.

Fun fact: The Jane Mallett Theatre was originally called the Town Hall but was renovated in the early 80s and renamed after late Canadian actress Jane Mallett in her honour.
