Tomorrow, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe will launch its Golden State Swing tour. With six-dates from March 7-16, the ensemble will hike up and down the West Coast in stride with openers Mitchum Yacoub and The Charities. This set of engagements comes after Denson’s lauded January 12 performance at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Winter Jazzfest. 

KDTU will kick off the tour on March 7 at the Felton Music Hall in Felton, Calif., with support from Mitchum Yacoub, known for his Cumbia-inflected funk sounds. Next, the bands will journey to Menlo Park, Calif.’s The Guild Theatre for a performance on March 8 and a show at Grass Valley, Calif.’s The Center for the Arts the following night. On March 14, KDTU will play The Venice West in Venice, Calif., preceding a two-night bill at Solana Beach, Calif.’s Belly Up Tavern on March 15 and 16 with support from The Charities, a funk and soul outfit based out of Hermosa Beach, Calif. 

After closing out the Golden State Swing tour, Denson will join forces with Keyon Herrold, James Francies, Jermaine Paul and Blaque Dynamite as the Karl Denson Project for two nights at Napa, Calif.’s Blue Note Napa on March 22 and 23. Next, the artist will travel to New Orleans for two sets in the final days of the annual Jazz & Heritage Festival, presenting a set at Daze Between New Orleans at Faubourg Brewery on May 1 and then rejoining his Tiny Universe for an afterparty at the legendary Tipitina’s on the following night.

Denson, the legendary flutist and saxophonist best known as a founding member of The Greyboy Allstars and the touring saxophonist for The Rolling Stones, has recorded and played with greats like Steve Winwood, Lenny Kravitz and Galactic’s Stanton Moore and toured with the Allman Brothers, Bob Weir and Parliament-Funkadelic.
