Sun Giant
The Sun Giant is one of the Apex Creatures you’ll find in the higher-difficulty Realm in Nightingale. He’s a towering colossus that stomps around in the Desert. This guide will show you what Realms you’ll find him in, how to approach him, and how to defeat him if that’s your goal.
Where to Find Sun Giants
The Sun Giant only roams Desert Hunt Realms. You’ll find him casually strolling through the landscape on a circuitous route through the desert. The best way to track him down is to get to a high point, take out your Spyglass, and look around.
What to Offer the Sun Giant
If you walk calmly up to a Sun Giant, he’ll place an offering altar where you can offer him many things. Depending on what you give him, he’ll reward you with basic materials you can find around the same Realm he’s in. However, what he really wants is a Ritual Curio Configuration. He rewards you with a Pellucidic Etched Ingot in return.
You’ll learn the Ritual Curio Configuration recipe from Danu during the “Search for a Sun Giant Expert” quest. At the start of the quest, Wilhelmina Sasse directs you to a Swamp Gloom Realm to find Danu. She asks you to complete Bastilles of Intellect in exchange for the recipe.
The Ritual Curio Configuration can be crafted from a Cut Gem, a Plant Fibre, and an Etched Ingot made from Precious Metal, such as Copper, Silver, or Gold. It requires a Refined or Excellent Workbench with one of the following Augmentations nearby:
- Macabre Rack
- Danu’s Cauldron
- Crystal Ball
How to Defeat the Sun Giant
If you’d rather take the Sun Giant head-on, you have quite a fight ahead of you. The Sun Giant has a handful of special attacks that make it incredibly powerful. However, it has an obvious weakspot that makes dealing critical damage easier.
The best strategy for taking on a Sun Giant is to take him on near a large structure you can use to block his line of sight. Between attacks, slide out and shoot him in his weakspot. Then, duck behind cover to avoid his spells.
The Sun Giant’s Weakspots
The Sun Giant wears a huge necklace with a large purple amulet. That amulet is his primary weak spot. His head is also a weak spot, but hitting the amulet deals significantly more damage. To maximize your damage output, use a ranged weapon with high Critical Damage, such as the Chassepot Rifle.
The Sun Giant’s Attacks
The Sun Giant has three special attacks that can all deal devastating damage. It’s best to have your Umbrella at the ready so you can float down when he whips you up into the air. Here are all his attacks:
- Spire Beam. The Sun Giant fires out multiple beams that grow spires wherever they hit the ground. If you’re standing close to where a spire pops up, you’ll be thrown into the air. Take out your Umbrella and float down to avoid breaking a leg.
- Cluster Blasts. The Sun Giant summons a dozen balls of energy and fires them at you. The best way to avoid the blasts is to get behind something like a wall or rock formation.
- Whirlwind. The Sun Giant summons a vast whirlwind around your location. It deals significant damage over time and is so huge that it’s difficult to move out of. If you have a Recovery Spell, it can heal through the damage, enabling you to get a few free shots at the Giant while he channels the spell.
