Josh Homme wants Them Crooked Vultures to reunite: “Dave knows this”

The musician and songwriter of Queens of the Stone Age, Josh Homme, has discussed the possibility of Them Crooked Vultures during a Reddit AMA.

Asked on the online fan forum, Homme was asked about the chances of a Them Crooked Vultures reunion, to which the musician explained: “It’s sort of not my job to put Vultures back together, that’s Dave [Grohl]’s job. My job is to dance around, write words, and try to write some music”.

Formed back in 2009 alongside Led Zeppelin\’s John Paul Jones and Dave Grohl, Them Crooked Vultures released just one critically acclaimed album, winning a Grammy in 2011 for ‘Best Hard Rock Performance’ for the song ‘New Fang’. In 2010, the band went on hiatus and have long since rumoured a second album, with Grohl showing his interest on multiple occasions regarding getting back together.

Continuing in his online response, Homme added: “I really want to – Dave knows this. I really want Vultures to get back together and do one more round…Is there any chance? Yeah, but I like that it’s not up to me. Is it a good chance? No”.

Although they haven’t released an album since 2009 or toured since 2010, the band did reunite in 2022 for the two Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts that commemorated the loss of the late Foo Fighters drummer. The concert was released in its entirety on Paramount+, with the performance also including appearances from Queen’s Brian May, Alanis Morissette and Rush’s Geddy Lee.

Reflecting on his time performing with the supergroup, Homme added: “The band is so strange, the music is so strange and perverse…I had such a joyous time on those tours and being in that band, because the other guys are Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones and they are just really good.”

Despite there being no solid word about a reunion or second album, both Grohl and Homme have been vocal in their desires for more music, with the latter calling the environment the group created “addictive”. He concluded: “The playing is so simple, you’re able to just get into ideas right away and they just happen”.
