LICENSING meetings in Southampton will be held during the evenings.

City council chiefs have decided to hold meetings of the licensing committee at 6pm in the evening from now onwards.

Previously the meetings had taken place at 9.30am but councillors decided to change the time to allow more members of the public to attend.

It follows the switch from morning to 6pm meetings for planning panel meetings, which had happened last year.

The first licensing committee meeting to take place at the new time will be on Wednesday (June 3).

Meanwhile Labour councillor Mike Denness has been appointed as the new chairman of the planning panel.

The Millbrook councillor replaces party colleague Paul Lewzey in charge of the body that meets to approve or reject major or contentious planning applications.

Labour's Matt Tucker remains as chairman of the licensing committee, which meets to run the rule over bids to change licenses or reviews called by the police or council.
