10 Greatest Rock Music Guitar Solos Of The 1990s

8. Sleep Now In The Fire - Rage Against The Machine

Of all the great guitar solos Rage Against the Machine put out in the 90s, the one from Sleep Now in the Fire, taken from their 1999 album The Battle of Los Angeles, might seem like a weird choice.

The song is the most Rage thing of all time. The video was directed by Michael Moore and the shoot took place outside the New York Stock Exchange, attracting so many people that the doors of the building had to be locked shut.

As for the song itself, it’s a pretty straightforward structure with an absolutely blistering solo in the middle. It doesn’t last very long, only clocking in at 15 seconds, but this is definitely a case of quality over quantity.

Tom Morello, a man who can do unbelievable and possibly illegal things with a guitar, fires out a string of rapid high-pitched notes, almost as if he is transmitting morse code in musical form.

It’s unlike any other solo you’ll find in the Rage catalogue, or in any musician’s repertoire for that matter, and kicks what is already a great song up to the next level.
