A one-year-old boy was found dead in an irrigation canal in Barangay Gaddani, Tayum, Abra.

Based on police investigation, the child may have slipped through a part of the bamboo fence surrounding their house and fell into the canal.

The canal was 20 meters downhill away from the house.

"Asideg met laeng diay balay to irigasyon, mga 20 meters, pababa, isu alisto natinnag diay ubing," PEMS. Rholen Bigornia, Deputy Chief of Police of Tayum MPS, said.

The child was reported missing by his mother early in the morning. The mother said she lost sight of her son as she was experiencing nausea due to her pregnancy. 

She was with her child in their backyard at that time.

"Idi madlawak nga awan talagan sir, binirok ko aminen, idiay nako a nagdanag sir ta bassit pay lang met," the mother said.

The father advised parents not to take their eyes off their children, even for a moment.

"[Sana] maging aral [ito] sa lahat ng magulang na huwag malingat kahi konting segundo," the father said.

Authorities advise residents living near irrigation canals to be extra vigilant and ensure the safety of their children to prevent such incidents from happening again.
