Sacramento man dies weeks after walking into Wingstop on Florin Road with a gunshot wound

A Sacramento man who stumbled into a south Sacramento Wingstop with a gunshot wound last month died from his injuries Thursday, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies were called about 10:15 p.m. to Wingstop, 5950 Florin Road, on Feb. 24 after a man walked into the eatery with a gunshot wound, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesman with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was conscious and breathing and was taken to the hospital, Gandhi said. His condition deteriorated to life-threatening a little less than two hours after the incident but then he was in stable condition, he said in February.

The victim was identified as Joseph Anthony Soto Jr., 38, after he died Thursday, the coroner said. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office initially classified the victim’s death as a homicide.

Deputies canvassing the area searched said witnesses saw cars fleeing from the area, according to archived radio dispatches.

Gandhi said Friday no arrests have been made.
