MUSKOGEE, Okla. — A vigil was held on Monday evening by family, friends and supporters of a Muskogee teacher found dead after going missing in freezing temperatures in January.

Police don't think Amanda Harms' death is suspicious, but her family said they have unanswered questions.

A small group gathered outside the Muskogee Civic Center to remember Amanda Harms, also known as Mandi to her family and friends, wearing shirts, bracelets and holding signs calling for justice.

Signs were held at the vigil with some saying ‘Amanda's life mattered’ and ‘Justice for Amanda Harms’.

Her family was emotional as they shared their memories of her.

They said she was a loving person and her family meant everything to her.

“She's not just a case, she's a person, her life mattered and we want more awareness. We want to know how the injuries happened to Mandi. We want to know how she wound up where she was at,” said Gena Stiger, family friend.

A Facebook page, ‘Justice for Amanda Harms, was set up and has over 3,000 members. The family have shared post-mortem pictures there and said they wanted people to see Harms’ injuries.

Harms’ mother, Shelley Townsend, and Stiger said they want to raise awareness over her death and to highlight some of their unanswered questions.

“She's gone, she's never coming back. I'm a person of truth, give me the truth, give me the cold hard facts,” Stiger said.

FOX23 has requested the medical examiner's report into Harms’ death and will provide updates once it’s released.

Harms’ family said they're thinking about getting their own autopsy done.

“We're not going to give up until we get answers. We're not giving up, we love Mandi,” Townsend said.
