Manchester United are planning for the future with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe now in charge of the sporting side of the business.

Erik ten Hag has struggled to build on a promising first season in charge and it remains to be seen whether he will still be the manager next season. United are still in with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League and an FA Cup final appearance beckons.

They beat rivals Liverpool 4-3 in extra-time last weekend to set up a semi-final clash against Championship side Coventry next month. With all that in mind, here's the latest from Old Trafford.

Maguire's Southgate verdict

Harry Maguire wants Gareth Southgate to remain in charge of England beyond Euro 2024, despite Ratcliffe making him his top target to replace Erik ten Hag as United boss this summer.

When asked if he wants Southgate to stay with England, Maguire said: "Yeah, definitely, obviously.‌ We want to be successful in the Euros – we are not looking at the World Cup at the moment – but obviously, if we are successful at the Euros, which is our main focus, of course, we want to be successful.

"If Gareth's the man to make us be successful then we want him to stay as long as possible. ‌I don't know what's going to happen after the Euros, I don't know if he knows what's going to happen. But I feel like what he's done from when he first took over this job to where we are at now, we've taken huge strides and he's a massive part of that."

Bremer interest

Juventus defender Gleison Bremer has emerged as a transfer target for United, according to reports from Italy. It is claimed that Dan Ashworth, who is close to becoming United's new sporting director has endorsed a move for Bremer. The centre-back is said to have a £43million release clause in his contract.

Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite has also been linked with a summer switch to Old Trafford, having earned England recognition after impressing for the Toffees following a loan spell at Dutch club PSV Eindhoven last season.

Hojlund backs 'unhappy' Eriksen

Christian Eriksen has been backed by teammate Rasmus Hojlund after admitting he is unhappy with his recent lack of game time. "I have had a conversation with Erik about being unhappy with the situation and wanting to play as much as possible, but I am available and need to be available for the team, which I am and always will be," Eriksen told Tipsbladet while away on international duty with Denmark.

And when asked about Eriksen's comments, Hojlund told TV2: "I myself have sat on the bench for FC Copenhagen, so I know what that means. But he holds his head high and he is a class player. He trains well and is still very positive and very helpful, so it's not a big deal."
