West Sacramento plan for new bridge advances

(FOX40.COM) — The city of West Sacramento approved a contract for a company to conduct a study for a new bridge.

The Enterprise Bridge would pass over the Sacramento Deep Water Ship Channel to connect Enterprise Boulevard in the northern part of the city and Southport Parkway in the southern part.

The city said the bridge would reduce traffic and reroute 10,000 vehicles away from the Southport and Port I-80 entrances.

According to the city, the bridge would also “enhance accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.”

“West Sacramento is committed to modernizing our transportation infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of residents and businesses,” said West Sacramento City Manager and Port CEO Aaron Laurel. “The Enterprise Bridge is a forward-thinking project that will relieve traffic, foster sustainable economic growth, and enhance goods movement and mobility throughout our city.”

According to the city, the bridge has been part of its General Plan since 1990.
